Default Transmission trouble

I have a 95 gt and this morning on the way to work I was going up a hill that I do every day and it took a bit longer to shift. Once I got to the top and leveled out I realized I didnt have 3rd gear anymore. I tried shifting it manually and it still didn't catch. Could I be looking at a new transmission or what could it be?

yes it's the stock aod. today when I took it in the fluid smelled burnt and there were plenty of shavings stuck to the magnet. I was quoted $800 just to take it out and check it and the work would be a minimum of $1000

You might want to consider swapping out to a T5 transmission.

well i really did consider that but I'd still have to pay somebody to do it (due to lack of room and shop) and add the parts and its more than my budget is

you have an aode, check codes and make sure no shift selonoid codes exist for that gear, if none exist, 3rd gear clutch pack may have given up the ghost
