hci need chip to work properly? and inj/maf question
Title says it all..with all my upgrades(gt40 heads,e303,cobra upper/lower,throttlebody,#24 injectors+maf) i really dont feel like im where i should be hp wise...will using a non chipped stock computer hold me back like majorly? i know from research they have like a learning capability but thats to an extent..is it worth the 250-400 for a bama tune or chip?
on a side note
Im hoping my not alot / not so little blue smoke out tailpipes is from blow back from pcv so i ordered a nice oil catch/seperator for the pcv which should b here on tuesday but MY QUESTION is from reading into the blowback and pcv problem that others have had i read somewhere that it could cause detonation..which i think is happening when i set timing to normal/stock timing mark i hear popping an such but when i advance the hell out of it i hear no popping an it sounds pretty good.. could be my base idle reset uhg i dunno : (
I also changed from stock injectors to #24 an got a pro-m maf sensor an housing that was calibrated to #24s got it off ebay looks real nice chromed out an such but when i put it on i lose almost all my throttle response... i put the stock maf on wit the off brand 24s i got from ebay and i definetly noticed a gain from the stock #19s...any ideas? bad maf? i emailed the guy i bought from an he said he had pretty much same setup as me an he told me to use a cleaner i got the crc or cnc maf cleaner but no difference...I had to cut the actual maf plug from an explorer because the pro-m had a dif connector(same as explorer) and wires were all same colors so i just matched them up...guess will run tests this weekend but any ideas or input?>?
where's my experts huh prolly off spinnin tires in their 5.0's like i should be doin!! : ) eerr ; (
(i posted blue smoke out of tailpipes thread for more info)

if your set up is bone stock gt-40's with no work done to them and an e-cam with the cobra intake with no work done to it either and it was all just bolted together with no attention to detail then 240-250 rwhp is where you could be at, which isn't steller performance IMO.

OP,
Even with a mild H/C/I setup, you can definitely benefit from a tune. However, the car has to be mechanically sound first, which I see you're working on.
As far as the MAF goes, I would be careful buying MAF's off of ebay. It's easy to get a MAF that doesn't function as accurately as it should. Especially since you see a difference when switching back to the stock one. I suggest buying a high quality MAF for the 24lb injectors and go from there.
Just make sure the Mustang is running strong on the stock tune, before you get any kind of chip. Otherwise, you'll be chasing your tail thinking there's a tune issue, when it's really mechanical.
Good luck and let me know if you have other questions!
