Default Alternator wiring question

Any idea where this charge wire would be going? I have electrical problems with the car and want to simplify the wiring to make it easier to work on, not to mention make the lights stop flickering with the rev.

The larger wire (charge wire)
goes into a wire harness that goes UNDER the battery (i think). Can this wire go DIRECTLY to the battery, or does it have to go thru a voltage regulator? I have been looking at wire diagrams for this and it looks like it can go right to the battery but im not sure.

Without further ado, here are the photos of what I am refering to:

Its hard to say what that wire does or goes to. It looks like someone installed it for some reason. The crimp connector to join the red & black wires definitely isn’t factory.

I would trace the wire until you find where it terminates. It may go to some electrical component, fuse, relay or a combination of those. It looks a little thin to be the wire to charge the battery, but its hard to tell from the pictures.

Good luck...

The alternator looks funky to me too, but I don't know "older" Foxes well at all, but my 1G alternator on my '91 looked nothing like that.

Anyhow, with that said, if you have a Fox and have charging problems, your first stop should be a 3G alt swap. If that means a serpentine belt from V-belt swap too, I'm even more in favor of it!
