Default Excess Exhaust Heat inside Car 1988 LX

Heya

This week we installed a Tremec TKO on my 88 Foxbody, doing so lead to a lot of modifications to make everything fit. One of the things that was a byproduct of the installation is the exhaust now sits higher underneath the car, specifically the cats.

The center console now heats up so much that it's actually hot to touch the ashtray lid.

What can be done to dissipate the heat in and around the center console?

Thanks

Ive heard other pple say there center console in there fox gets hot. I think if it was me I would try to fashion some kind of heat shield to help keep the heat away from the body. Some fiberglass matting and some thin sheets of aluminum . Sandwich the the matting between the aluminum about 1/4 inch thick and riviot the sheets together then you can bend them to fit over the cats and bolt it to the floor pan or how ever you can figure out how to attach it.

Heat shields would be a great way to go. A lot of heat will go up the shifter boot area if you don't have that sealed off. I added a home made seal (made out of vinyl coated cloth) on my shifter to seal it up better after the factory rubber one got torn up (I moved the transmission back an inch which caused the tear).

get rid of the cats!! and make sure the seals were all put back in place for the shifter boot area so heat can leach up/ exhaust get in that way

wrap the exhaust..not the headers they will warp..this will lower temps inside and speed up your exhaust flow..

Thanks for all the suggestions, We're going to do at least one of them.

On further playing around, we discovered the electric rad fans aren't turning on and the engine is running extremely hot, that may also be causing some issue. I think we're going to remove the thermostat and just wire them to the ignition so they're always on.
