Oh one more thing I should add is I squezzed the top radiator hose while running and it was pretty hot... Like not burn my hand hot but nothing I would touch reguraly... I dont know if that makes any difference but I heard squeezing that hose can tell something about the radiator... and yes I could feel coolant running through it... Thats the supply line right? not the return line?

good point Duncan thanks for the reply's I will pop a new temp sending unit in tonight or tommorow and let you know if that takes care of it.... good thing I chose to come on here and not buy a radiator from summit racing haha

Grabbing that line will tell you if that system is pressurized once its hot. With your temps, i would hope it was pressurized lol.

As a side note, lets say your gauge is correct and the engine is overheating. I wouldnt keep it hot for too long for fear of cooking the rings. Then you're in more hurt than a bad gauge or radiator

I had a similar issue on my Fox as well.

It would get hotter and hotter on the freeway or whenever I rode it hard and coolant would just disappear out of the radiator and I couldn't find a leak anywhere.

What it ended up being was a small pinhole in the radiator where it would boil over and steam out. It started out so small that I didn't even notice it hissing out...it would take a few days to notice a loss in coolant. Eventually the hole got large enough to where I would drive it and as soon as I stopped the car it would steam right out of the radiator. It was then that I knew I had to replace it. I went with an aluminum one and now the thing runs cool as as cucumber.

Did you burp the air out of the lines when you replaced the t-stat? I had overheating issues like that in my work car after i did my t-stat and forgot to burp the radiator to get the air pockets out. It would get hot even when at highway speeds. It's an easy fix and takes about 15-20min with a second person to watch the temp gauge while you stare at the radiator fill neck.

I do have a aftermarket temp gauge maybe its out of wack, does anyone know where on the engine to point a infa-red temp gun to get an accurate reading?
Your water pump can't pump air. That's why it gets hot while you're moving and air is passing thru the radiator. It drove me nuts to no end when it was happening to me because common sense told me that higher speeds=more cool air thru the radiator=cooler engine temp. It made no sense to me why my coolant gauge was near redline and having to blast the heater to pull heat off the motor until somehow the bubble went thru and coolant was able to get thru my passages.

I burped the air out, and now my work car stays nice and cool.
