91 Fox Hatch lock missing - How to open hatch?
I just bought my first 5.0 Fox body GT about 2 weeks ago, and am just trying to get some of the little things fixed up on it. It was purchased without a hatch lock, there is just a hole where the lock/key would go. I tried using the hatch release button in the glove box but am getting no reaction. Does anyone know how I can get the hatch open? Like I said there is just a hole where the hatch lock would be, is there something I can stick in there and pull to release the hatch? Do i need to take off all the paneling from the inside to get to it?? Whats the best way to get this thing open so I can check out the electronic hatch release and install a new lock?
Thanks
Thanks

Mine was the same way from P.O., I pulled the trim from the interior and removed the hatch part of the latch. There's two bolts underneath and two facing the passenger compartment. I want to say 5/16 but it's been awhile.

Ok, so its best to just laydown in the back and pull the trim away, theres no way to hook and pull something from the lock hole to undo the latch?
I am just dreading getting in the back, i live in AZ and its over 100 degrees out still.

IDK if you can get to it from the lock hole, but on the top right side of the mechanism (if you're on the outside of the car looking towards the front) is a V shaped piece. You may be able to slide a long skinny screwdriver or a scribe in there and catch it and push it towards the right to pop the latch

look up under the licence plate between the two licence plate lights on the underside of the deck lid, you'll see a plate with two small rivits, drill off the rivit heads and then pop the plate down with a screwdriver, it retains the lock assembly, then pull out lock assembly and then use a screwdriver to turn the latch, a flat blade screwdriver will fit in the mechanism and turn it as if it were a key
