Default Car shuts off at random times

Ive had a problem for about 2 weeks now. the car would shut off soon as it warmed up and wouldn't start again till it cooled off we slapped a new distributor in it and that fixed that problem. But now it wants to cut out and backfire at times when driving and it will stall at idle when it starts up, it is driveable though. i found whenever i twist the key back just a bit it will stall the car so im assuming thats where this problems coming from.
the car has a new coil, new wires, new distributor, had 2 new ignition switches in it and no luck if anyone has any advice on where to look help would be much appreciated

Default car stalling

I have had two mustangs that would not start when warm but if you let it cool down, it would start and run. Turns out it was a bad computer. bought a $100 computer and never had another problem.

Did you replace the switch on the column or the key cylinder? I've had both go out and give similar symptoms.

Most likely the TFI module.

I agree , the TFI (ignition module) sounds like a likely place to start.

Symptoms are bucking , stalling , popping , hard starting. Usually after car is up to temp . Once the car cools off some it can be restarted and it will run good for a little while then fail again. Eventually the module will fail and vehicle wont start at all.

Location of the TFI on the pre 94 makes it susceptible to failure due to heat..

Ford actually has a TSB out for this problem with many 80s/ early 90s model cars/trucks
There is a relocation mod that many use to get it off the dizzy and onto the fender like the sn95 platform uses.

Failing coil when it gets hot can cause the car to shut off or sputter , buck , and miss also.

If it does it when you turn the key back a bit, I'm with mongolchuck, I'd have to think your problem's there. I'd pull the steering column shroud and then crank it and just watch and see what's happening when you turn the key back slightly, could be a wire being pinched.

Mine was doing something similar and it turned out to be that the plastic thing that holds the key cylinder in place was broken.
