Default Strange 10way shock question

I was given a set of strange 10 way adjustable shocks, they are new. I think they have been sitting for a while tho, my question is they stay compressed at all times. Is this normal, any shock I've ever replace is banded compressed and the moment you cut the band it will decompress. Are the ones I got free bad even tho there brand new? The guy sold his mustang and never used them, just saw I got one and said I can have them nice score?

Try storing them in the vertical position for a couple days and see what happens.
You may need to 'bleed' them by pushing them all the way down and then pulling them all the way open about 5-6 times.......

We'll I just put one on the car it seems to be ok. You can for sure tell the settings change the ride.. I also emailed strange... Will see what they say... I'll install the other side tomorrow morning. I was googling and it seems that they normally stay compressed in all the pictures I've seen. Could be wrong.. Thanks for the input.. I just figured install one test it and see I mean it's a 10-15 min job..

Also the set came with frp c springs, read mixed reviews anyone like them.

I have the same shocks on my 2775# drag car, I'v found that setting 5 or 6 seems to work best.
Even the instructions that Strange sent with them sort of read like 'it's just put them on and dial them in'.....
