Is the block code. What the hell do I have. lol
This was believed to be a 1987 F-150 5.0L and AOD tranny.. however upon further reading tonight this appears to be a fox body mustang engine code.
It has the 351W firing order, so does this mean it has the HO camshaft? Making it a 1987 5.0L HO?
Forgive me, whilst writing this post (over a span of three to four hours) I have been reading up and learning a bit. It would seem this engine is nothing to write home about
225 hp & 300 lb-ft

My engine is in a 1967 Mercury Cougar. Up top is a Holley 650 4bbl, breathing down in to a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. Stock E7TE heads, and I am guessing stock HO cam. Out through long tube headers feeding in to true-dual 2.25" pipes and glass packs dumping before the rear axle. Mated to an AOD transmission and an 8" out back with unknown gears inside. (3.00? 3.50?)
I am thinking that I have to be at least 40hp+ over a stock 87 5.0L HO.
Been doing more reading.. it was a magazine budget build, and they did 399 bhp on one of these with $1064 including the purchase price of the engine. Basically, I'd only need the heads, cam, and rockers they used. I have the rest already.. Shweet.
Pro Comp 210cc Heads.
Trick Flow .499/.510 Cam.
Parker Funnel Web intake (I'd keep the performer RPM).

Oddly. The firing order is not factory on the cap. I stabbed the dizzy and made the wires match where I had it.
It is definitely the HO/351w firing order because when I put it to be 302 order.. it was backfiring out the carb and 4 of 8 header tubes were cold, thus no fire. The 4 that switch between non ho and ho.
I do believe the heads also have the e7te code, and those are from a foxbody 87 stang ho are they not? Either I have a 87 5.0 ho or it is a frankenstein engine

Yea it is almost impossible to know exactly with 100% certainty because ford 5.0 blocks were all the same in the late 80s. The block may have the tag T light truck and it was likely that the plant had some of those blocks left over when they started production of the mustang so they used those blocks until they were used up then went to the z stamped blocks. Ford production plants interchanged blocks and heads between cars and trucks and to make it an HO they simply used the HO cam. That block and heads could have been used up until 88 or 89 even though it is stamped 87. depends on when the engine engineering department changed stamps and how many e7 blocks were left over.
If it runs good in the ho firing sequence then be happy with it. The block is nothing special weather its a mustang / Lincoln / bronco or a f150 . That same block was used in anything with a 5.0l.
One thing good about it is that after 93 they stopped using forged internals and in 94 they changed to cast internals. The cast internals were not quite as tough as the forged which is why the earlier year 5.0l engines are more sought after.

Right, further reading prevailed and I learned that all the 5.0L of that vintage were identical below the heads..
Since I am looking to upgrade the heads at a later date anyhow.. none of this really matters lol
