im looking to buy a 1986 5.0 mustang. i was wondering what i should look out for or common problems with these cars. also any common rust spots to look for while im there. i heard that 1979-93s are known for rattling so is there something i should listen for. i plan to do a manual swap later down the road once i find a nice tranny to use.

any car will rattle if something is taken apart and not put back together correctly.

As far as rust goes typical spots for any 25 year old car. Brake and fuel lines frame rails , rocker panels, deck lids, floor boards etc , you just need to crawl under there and look every thing over.
