May seem like a dumb question! In my '83 GLX I recently replaced the v6 with a 302 v8. I installed a new fuel pump and here's the question. The vapor port on the pump squirts a gas stream about 2' long. Everyone in all the parts stores say that that pump was defective, should be vapor, not raw gas. I replaced the pump and this one does the same thing. The odds of getting two in a row that are defective are astronomical. I capped off the port, as I have no need for it, but is this a good pump or is it defective also?

What type of pump are you referring to? Mechanical , electric inline? Post a link to the pump you purchased.

I suspect you are capping off the return line of the pump, but with out knowing what pump you have I have no idea

It is a mechanical pump. MFG is Precision. part # M23029. Thanks for the input. I'll see what I can do about a more name brand pump.

Holley and Carter both make good pumps. I suspect your is an offshore POS type pump.

It is a mechanical pump. Is it possible that this smaller port is a return line and not a vapor port? The v6 had no return line. Will capping it off hurt anything?
Thanks in advance.

wrong , it is not bad, if any of you had a clue how to use google and or know what style pump the oem 83-85 carbed cars came with you'd know there are 3 ports not 2, if you are not using a oem set up the small one should be capped off on the side the other two = 1 is suction, other is the feed. the other solution is to order a early style pump with just a suction and feed port
