5.0L (1979-1995) Mustang Technical discussions on 5.0 Liter Mustangs within. This does not include the 5.0 from the 2011 Mustang GT. That information is in the 2005-1011 section.

The red circle is where the water opening is on the timing cover. I need to see where that port is in relation to the block. Move your camera to the right so it is right in front of that area (The picture you took has the accessory bracket blocking right where I need to see).

Basically, a 302 will have the timing cover very close to the head. A 351w will have about an inch between that same area (thus the 9.5" vs 8.2" deck heights of the block).

Edit - Idk why that picture turned out so big

Now that I think about it, you can rule out the fact that its a Cleveland. Clevelands stopped production in 1974 (off the top of my head). This is long before the introduction of fuel injection (1986 in Mustangs). You have an efi intake, which would need a lower intake specific for the Cleveland's 9.2 deck height. So we can rule that out.

You may be able to determine this yourself. I'll provide the difference:

Here is the 302 block. Look at where the arrow points - the timing cover practically touches where the cylinder head is.

Here is the 351w. Note the big gap between the timing cover and the cylinder head.

Now all you have to do is look at your engine and compare.

Pull out a spark plug and look for these pistons.
