oil pressure

Default oil pressure

no oil pressure. gauge reads zero pulled valve cover started it up no oil squirting thru push rods. motor sounds dry. oil pump for sure or something else before i jerk motor out to put in oil pump

probably the oil pump driveshaft sheared its pretty common on the 289/302/351w motors

well I tried to spin it with a drill seems to be locked up. is that shaft supposed to be a spiral or hexagon?

It should be hexagon. If it's spiral, something has locked the pump up - I had one do the same thing a few years back. You don't have to pull the engine to pull the pan and replace the pump and/or pump shaft; though it's a lot messier to do in the car....

well I was going to do rear main fron etc tranny needy work this just made evrything else a priority as well

its not locked up. if it was the shaft would be broken or twisted like a pretzel etc. its a 1/4 inch 6 point.

I am a blacksmith and the rod is twisted like that of decorative iron on burglar bars. no longer the once stock hexagon shape......the drill would not budge the pump

Once upon a time, my oil pump drive shaft was as you describe, except with extra twist compared to twisted decorative wrought iron.

it's locked up, nuff said..........................op make sure there is not a lot of metallic in the oil, may want to cut open filter as well to see if bearing material is in it ...if none seen, change the pump and hopefully you dodged a bullet
