Default Looking at buying my first mustang.

Looking at a couple fox body's all stock 5 speeds. What's common problems to look for when buying one? And once I get one what are basic steps to upgrading it? I'm not looking to get a monster but my brother has a srt8 charger and I'd like to have a chance to beat him lol.

I have several Ford and Mercury Muscle cars....but my wife has the new SRT Challenger - good luck betting that thing. We were cruising one day at 100 mph and she punched it, it was at 150 in just a few seconds.
We have 13 vehicles and each has it's own characteristics. My 800 hp 71 Mustang and her 68 Camaro 383 Supercharged Stroker are fast off the line, her BMW 330ci is fast and hugs curves like it's nobody's business but overall, the SRT8 Challenger is just hard to beat.

My brother n law has a 08 charger srt8 my brother has a '14 srt8 charger and family friend has a 08 srt8 challenger. They all run 13s besides my brother hits high 12s sometimes. They seem fast when you ride in them ya I love the pull and sound but frankly for the price of my bros srt8 at 65 grand, I'd want a 10 second car lol

Oh and what is a "off road" exhaust? And what would a exhaust setup cost

Off road exhaust refers to the section of exhaust between the headers and mufflers, called either a H pipe or X pipe, depending on the design. This is normally where the catalytic converters would be. "Off road" means there are no converters. If you live in a strict emissions area, I'd think twice about using these as the are illegal.

And check out "Latemodel Restoration " for exhaust systems. Prices vary depending on what you want.

And as for keeping up with the SRT's, it can be done quite easily with the right mods. They'll have the HP advantage, but don't forget they also carry ALOT more weight. And I'm talking about 1/4 mile racing. Horsepower always wins as speed increases. Good luck
