94 Mustang GT Brake Upgrade
Hi All,
I have a 94 GT with full bolt-ons (exhaust - including recently installed LTs, air induction, suspension), gears, and rebuilt 302 bored to 306 with Trick Flow top end kit. I also upgraded the radiator recently. Now I am thinking about upgrading the brakes for better stopping power.
For the amount of power I'm making, I don't know if I need something like the Brembo and Wilwood kits. I've done a lot of forum searching and it appears that Cobra brakes are a good, lower cost option. Specifically, I found this kit on LMS. It includes everything for the front and calipers for the rear.

A couple of questions:
Do I need to consider anything in terms of fitment (besides having 17" wheels or larger - which I do have)?
I've read that some people upgrade the master cylinder with Cobra brakes. Should I?
I've read that some people just keep stock rotors and pads on the rear. Is this recommended? Would the rear calipers from this kit work with stock rotors/pads? Are stainless steel lines a good idea for the rear as well?
Any other suggestions?

I don't know what kind of driving you do but I doubt you really need to do anything to the rear. The sve front kit should be plenty. since your already doing the brakes the stainless steel lines aren't a bad idea. Again front only. And use a good set of hawk pads.

I did the full SVT front/rear brake option, but instead of the stock Brembo rotors I went with the slotted option. The stopping power was utterly amazing. Competly different than stock and far superior in every way. I find the stock brakes for the sn95s to be way under sized for the weight of the car and the power being made. They feel spungy and often unresponsive, especially when compared to the SVT option, especially if you go with better rotors. It's an upgrade you won't regret.
A few points though, you will need the entire kit for the conversion, especially if you do the rears. I know it's not a big difference in the rear as the front, but if you use larger spaced wheels, you will notice the puny size of the stock rear rotors over the larger Cobra design. I say do both, you can't go wrong and you will not regret it.

I do street & strip driving and I've been thinking about doing Autocross or something like that in the future.
Thanks, jthorn9. I think I might get the rear kit as well.
Should I replace the master cylinder when upgrading to the Cobra brakes?
