Broken block behind timing cover?!?! Help!!
Hey guys I'm at a loss here...I'm coming close to finishing my build and as I was tightening up my water pump bolts the block split(pic attached). Can anyone tell me if I can run it like this or if I can fix it or if I am completely screwed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

you are screwed beyond belief.
you can buy another block
you can disassemble yours and have it welded properly.
you can remove the timing cover and have it welded in the car and pray it works.
it broke in the threads so you might have to helicoil the hole after.
that bolt only needs around 18 lbs of torque
i have never seen one break there. it would likely take a grade 8 bolt with too much torque on it or a bolt that is too long and bottomed out to break it etc..

I understand that getting a new block is the best option but unfortunately I've put everything I have into this one. This car is going to have to be my daily driver for awhile so I almost don't have a choice but to try and fix it. Is there anyone out there who has dealt with this before and successfully repaired the problem?

Chances are that a new block is going to be the only logical option.
start it drive it run it, if it leaks ... get a new block. I doubt you will find any welding shop that will even attempt to try to fix it. If by chance you do find a welder with cast iron experience they are going to charge you a fortune and then they wont even guarantee the work , because they know welding cast is absolutely incredibly difficult .
Oh and chances are that crack will continue to grow with vibrations ,,,, bite the bullet and find a new block.

That sucks the big one, but you know you'll have a coolant puddle everywhere you stop. It will never seal, and I've never saw one crack there either. Could have been hit or something dropped on it while apart?

Yeah, I keep looking at that picture trying to think of anything to fix it and there's just nothing that would be a solid fix. You can't drill and tap any deeper without breaking into the waterjacket, welding would be next but you really have to know what your doing with cast.
There's always JB Weld lol.
