Default Steering Rack Leaking

Is there a seal kit or something for the steering rack? Mine leaks. I fill up the pump and without driving it there is a puddle of fluid on the passenger side under the tie rod area.

Yes you can rebuild them, but, I think it was dawson on here, that said its not worth the trouble when a new rack was a couple bucks more and alot less work.

Yea the seal kit is about 40 bucks at auto zone and a remanned rack is 53 if you bring the core. It has to come out to rebuild it anyways so its worth a little more in my opinion to just replace the entire rack, plus youll have brand new inner tierods.

Yeah, it's barely anymore to buy a new one, plus your going to be removing the old one whether rebuilding or replacing. Much less hassle and much more peace of mind to just grab a new one.

I thought they were a lot more expensive than that..
I looked it up at Autozone and there is like 6-7 choices ford design, trw design, standard steering, sport steering, one piece design, 2 1/4 turn lock to lock 2.5 turns from lock to lock. Wow.... anyone know which one goes on a 1988?

The biggest problem is parts listing confusion. Get yourself one that says one or all of the following things: sport suspension, 15:1, 2.5 turns lock to lock, and you should be fine.

Don't turn your old rack in for core refund until you're sure the one you bought is the right one and it fits properly, you may have to re-use your old bushings if the reman'er didn't supply the correct ones, which happened to me once.

to reopen this thread if you haven't found the right rack it should be a 22-207 cardoan which is the Ford one that is for sport suspension and is aluminum body. You can get these with this number at any of the parts houses. They all are from same rebuilder. Note you can not buy direct from cardoan.
