Default 89 302 timing question?

Does your distributor spark every time around?

I.E. evrytime time the cam and crank mark meet its on compression?

because my cam crank are in time, everytime the two meet my distributor is on one and this muthafuca wont run, can I still be 180 out? I am not thinking so but please educate me!
how do you distinguish compression exhaust strokes? if it fires every time around and the timing is on then this biotch should run. no if it only fires every other round then I can c it. NOW when I hold my thumb over the hole I get compression every time the marks line up? You c I'm a dumbazz and lost at that......please help

Ahhh, ha, ha. that's a hilarious post. very common prob and question. not to worry.

put white out on the 10 degree mark on the crank damper. this will be to the right of 0 as you face the engine.

put white out on the timing pointer.

remove the passenger side front spark plug.

have someone you don't like stick their finger gently over the hole.

either click the starter or turn engine over by hand until you ex friend feels pressure [not vacuum] at the hole.

stop turning the engine.

look ast the crank damper and tyrn engine until the mark on the damper lines up with the mark on the pointer.

this is number one topd dead center compression/fire position.

remove the distributor cap.

see whicj way the rotor is pointing. this should be number 1 plug.

simply move your wires on the cap so this is number 1 or remove yir dist and line it up with the current number 1 wire on your cap.

connect timing lite to number 1 cyl and turn engine over.

rotate dist until the white out marks line up.

tighten distributor.

Thanks for the input, I have set the timing before..........right now I have the timing cover removed, the marks that I am referring to are the crankshaft keyway and the dot on the camshaft sprocket. Every time they line up is #1 top dead center, my question is; is this ALWAYS compression stroke?

it is always tdc compression/fire for number 1 cylinder.

The crank will rotate twice for every one cam rotation. If the cam dot is at the top while the crank dot is also at the top it is tdc on exhaust. If the cam dot is at the bottom while the crank dot is at the top (and perfectly lined up) then it is tdc on compression.

then this bitch is broke, I just left parts house and they said ignition module is good. I was hoping maybe it was firing intermittently or something.....just wishful thinking. Any ideas why it wont run with spark , compression, fuel and timing?

Yes, providing you cam timing is correct and you have compression and you spray starting fluid in it, then your ign timing is most likely not correct, it's that simple.

Why don't you tell us when and how this problem started.

Did it start after a part was changed etc.?

Why is you timing cover off?

put the number 1 piston at tdc then see if your marks on the crank gear and timing gear are exactly on the same vertical line.

Sure you have it wired as a 302 HO and not a 302 non-HO? The HO uses a 351W firing order.

The pick-up coil in the dizzy can be bad too.

137266548?
where is this pick-up coil u speak of?

the ignition module had some corosion on the backing I assume it grounds there hopefully that will help.

the timing cover was off to verify timing, i have concluded it is in time the marks line up 12 on 6 =compression #1

This is how it started

bummer.

according to your info, everything leads to distributor timing as the most likely culprit still providing you have good spark.
