Hack ... I use conventional oil now. I have heard in the past that you should not switch a motor over to synthetic after it has been ran for a while with conventional. Why is it that the synthetic would cause it to not smoke?

Rule of thumb........
When checking compression all the cylinders should be within 10% of each other.
That applies to everything BTW.....

that is a bunch of bull. you can run synthetic at any time. when the car hasnt been taken care of it can cause the engine to leak by breaking down the sludge in the engine that car blocking up leaks. other than that your engine will never know the difference if you run synthetic or conventional. and you can switch back to conventional
