Default did a compression check today

So i did a compression check today and i am looking at 138 to 145 on a cold motor. From what i have read this doesn't seem to bad. The reason i did a compression test is the car started smoking a little bit and before throwing money and time into valve seals i wanted to check and see if it was something like rings or a valve hanging open on me.

Does the compression readings i got seem ok? Just want to make sure before i proceed.

Thats what i was thinking... Would i be better off to remove the heads to change the valve seals? I have never had the heads off of this motor. It would give me a chance to check it out and see how it looks on the top side. Or should i just change them with the heads still on?

Being that I will have the rockers off anyway would it be beneficial to add a set of roller rockers while I am in there? I know the gains will be slight but it would be something to go with any other mods I do in the future.

hello

well how many miles are on it?

if its around 170 or more your valves might leak soon anyway.

if you yank the heads you can do a valve job check the guides, redo the seals, inspect your cylinder bore for a slight ridge near the top which is an indicator the the bore is pretty worn and you can mill those heads .028 from stock to bump your compression up around .5.

i would buy scorpion rollers if you want some. they will do little to indreae hp.

if they are 1.6 ratio, you can install 1.7 to possibly boost your hp but i would not do it.

thats just me. cams are designed to run with a certain ratio rocker. its rare that changing ratios will improve a cams overall performance.

the fact that your car has a stock cam is an exception. it is designed to meet epa requirements etc, therefore, installing 1.7's might benefit you.

if it was me i'd simply pull the heads, do the work and put in a real cam.

you have under 100k miles on the engine. i would just leave the heads on the car, change the valve seals and the rockers to roller rockers. also do you use conventional oil or synthetic? if you use conventional switch to synthetic and i bet you wont see any more smoke out the exhaust.
