Sounds like the clutch cable broke.

Ok, if it popped while you where pressing on the clutch then i think i know what happened, happened to me once thinking i had a bad cable. Your stock quadrant should be adjustable! Go to your car and pull the clutch pedal away from the floor, thats how you adjust it. Your clutch cable was so tight that it reset itself but very loose. Good luck!!

Welcome, and yes an aftermarket quadrant won't do that, unless your POP is the cable snapping.

If you were pressing the clutch cable and then you heard a pop and your pedal went limp, you've most likely busted your cable. It's easy to check usually, you just open the hood and check where the cable comes out of the firewall, you will often see that the rubber has been crumpled by the firewall because the cable housing failed. This has happened to me numerous times on different mustangs. I have now upgraded to the tougher oem cable: http://www.maximummotorsports.com/Cl...kage-P385.aspx

That's good and all, but the stock coil and plugs are going to do the same thing as those more costly aftermarket stuff. Since your new here, try using the search feature on any question you may have for maintenance or modding. I guarantee someone has done it before and started a thread on what worked and what didn't. You'll be reading for hours. Good luck with your cable install, and let us know how the tune up goes.
