Down Shifting Issue

Down Shifting Issue
I have a 94 Mustang GT I acquired through a trade. It had several issues I have been dealing with. So far I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, steering column, lower ball joints, tie rod ends and plugs. When I got the car it had a serious miss which turned out to be a weak fuel pump. That issue is solved. The steering was bad and the steering wheel had allot of play in it. That issue is solved. Popping noises from the front end turned out to be ball joints and tie rod ends. That issue is solved. Now I am getting a hard downshift that comes out of nowhere. With my foot barely on the gas in say a 45 mph zone the car will downshift hard and shift back up after a second or two. I've already dumped about $1600 into it and I feel like I may never see any value in this mustang. While changing the spark plugs I noticed a couple of things. from the passengers side of the engine bay I noticed a hose about the size of a quarter has been cut and plugged. it goes nowhere. also a wire or tube from the air intake has a screw twisted up into the end of it. Obviously there has been some questionable mechanical tinkering done. any suggestions would be of great help.

sounds like smog "air pump" has been removed. I think you will find that the hose may run back to right side of exhaust pipe.
The shifting part sounds like this is an automatic. If so change fluid and filter.

Your AODE tranny is computer controlled for shift points. I'd pull codes to see if any pop up for a bad sensor, etc. I'm not familiar with the SN stuff, so maybe I'm way off on this, if it'll show codes for the tranny or not. Someone will jump in here and let you know. Good luck, and welcome to the forum. Hope we can help you out.
