Default 95 to 87 mustang transmission swap

I'm in need of a transmission asap and have an 87 transmission that I need to swap in but can't without a different shift linkage from a foxbody but when my dad and I checked we couldn't figure out how its supposed to reach far enough to my shifter and if I need a different shift lever

both are aod trans but the one in the car has a little electric box on the side whereas the 87 doesn't

Im not sure youll be able to use that trans, at least not in the conventional sn95 way. The 87 trans is a AOD( automatic overdrive ), while the 95 is an AODE ( E meaning electronic automatic overdrive )

The AODE shift points are controlled via the PCM , ane the AOD is controlled via tv cable, ( commonly known as a kick down cable ) .

Now here is the good news for you.

To make this work and work correctly, you need to swap the upper intake over to a foxbody intake, or swap out the upper and lower intake to GT40 explorer type intake.
You also need a foxbody throttle body, a foxbody throttle cable, and a TV K/D cable for the AOD. Other wise the trans wont last 6 months. The TV cable must be used and be set correctly or you risk burning the clutch disks up. Not to mention it will shift like poop.

I believe the other rout would be to convert the AOD to a manual valve body where you would be determining shift points and shifting every gear manually.

As far as the shifter is concerned, I believe you can use the sn95 shifter, but the sn95 shifters were set further back than the foxes so you may have to do some fab work to the tunnel to move it forward far enough for the linkage to reach.

The computer will probly spit some codes out when it doesn't detect any transmission feedback, But Im pretty sure it will be ok to use, I could be wrong on this and you may need to switch to a manual trans computer.

There are probly other ways around all this, but in the end you will be needing to do some fab work. There is no direct bolt on way to go. That I know of.

You may need to go to a foxbody style shifter, I believe the 95 had a push button for over drive and the fox had an extra position for od.

it's as simple as this.....no need to do any otheR BS....find a aode, aod won't work/is not a direct swap.........or have your aode rebuilt.

The AOD will work behind that motor, but as dawson said, make sure the TV cable is adjusted properly.

TV cable wont be long enough to reach the throttle body using a sn95 intake because of the elbow they added to it.

As well as there is no place to connect it to the 95 throttle body.

There is a lot that needs done for it to work.
