Default What Cam is good for my combo?

... I know this will be two similar threads in a row, but I'll be a little more realistic. I have a 87 GT and I'm looking to make 290-300+HP. It's going to be a street car, so I'm not looking for the power at 7k. It's also not my daily driver so no worry about gas economy too much

Right now I have a

stock forged block, New GT40X Heads(cost me $600 for the pair NEW), 1.72 Scorpion RRs, Cobra Upper & Lower Intake, stock 19# injectors, shorty headers, off road h pipe.

I always think about using an E cam, but from what it sounds like they are the dinosaur of the cam world now. I've been suggested the EX270HR. Do you guys have any experience with that one?
Or have any other suggestions?
I'm all ears on this one

Thanks

Since trick flow trax max cam was brought up in the other thread (before the name change?) Heres the specs I'd go with.

Duration @ .050" (degrees) - 236 intake/248 exhaust
Cam Lift (intake/exhaust) - .359"/.372"
Lift w/ 1.6 rocker (intake/exhaust) - .574"/.595"
Lobe seperation (degrees) - 110°

Those GT 40 heads are a sweet upgrade over stock but still most likely going to hold you back from reacking the 290-300 goal. How ever the parts listed above along with some long tube headers (not shortys) should make for a fun car. Welcome to the forum!

Your engine doesnt have enough compression for an E cam, and the track max will give you PtV clearance issues.

What kind of nonsense is that?

I had an Ecam in my 5.0 with gt40x heads , 1.7RRs cobra intake. It ran perfectly fine and had a ton of power.

You guys need to expand your horizons a bit. Cam guys like Ed Curtis and Buddy Rawls have been stating this stuff for years.

Will the cam work, yes. Is the stock compression ratio correct for an E cam. No.

Xe270hr is damn near $280. Id save up and shell out the extra $70 for a custom cam.

.
hello;

that is xe270hr.

there are two with that grind number. you should use part number 35-324-8. it is a good cam and will work well with around 3.50 - 3.73 gears.

http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1060&sb=0

your static compression should be around 10.5 for 91 octane to optimize perf but it will still run ok with less.

A custom cam is totally unnecessary for your app but it would run a little better if you got one from a good cam guy like chris straub.

It has been stated by others that getting parts from ed curtis may take much longer than than he says plus responses to customers emails can be delayed. he obviously has the worst and most unprofessional attitude of any cam grinder and his ego far exceeds his abilities.

He is in another site regularly for the sole purpose of profiting off of it’s members. He rarely if ever offers any truly helpful to the members unless he thinks he can make money off of it at which point he posts links to his site saying you need to buy these parts, lol.

I mention this to possibly save you from experiencing the same things others have that have dealt with him.

You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about when it comes to ED Curtis and it take a lot of ***** to bash the man on another site which he doesn't frequent..........maybe I should post this link for ED to read over on the Corral. Thing is Ed runs a bussiness and doesn't have time to waste with window shoppers who want something for nothing. I have bought from him numerous times and have over 200+ emails saved that detail all the help he has given free of charge and he has even taken time in the past to call me personally to iron out an issue. Why don't you call Ed out over on the corral?? Or maybe I should post a link to all the idiotic responses/advice you make over there............When was the last time you've been a national race champion?? I think Ed's achievements speak for themselves as well as his abilities.
