Default Shifter question another one

Yes guys I have done my research. I purchased a pro 5.0 shifter for my 93 cobra. I had a mustang 10 years ago and put a short throw on but don't remember having to pull the center console out to get to the rubber boot bolts up by the radio. I think it was a bit of a pain but I remembered doing it just not having to take off console. Am I being delusional, in denial or am I remembering correctly. I am going to put this on in a few days. Also how tight do I torque those 4 bolts? I bought a gasket kit or do you recommend using rtv silicone. And can I check my tranny fluid level from the top when I have the shifter off? And any tricks regarding setting stop bolts? I am pretty sure that the kit has instructions, I just want some personal anecdotal experiences.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Ive used a ratcheting 5/16" wrench to get the front bolts before. I cant do that now since I installed dynamat and dynaliner. I use rtv on the shifter and set the stops by shifting it into gear and then running the bolts up until it hits the shifter and just barely back them off so I can see daylight. Have to double check that it goes fully into gear though on a test drive before covering it all back up.

+1 ^^^

You've remembered correctly, you don't have to pull the console.

And as for checking the fliud, you still have to get under the car to pull the plug. I think your thinking of some people filling the tranny thru the shifter housing.

Good luck on the install, your gonna like that shifter.

Thanks guys!

It will be a while before I install. Some of the parts I purchased are on backorder.
