Talking Quick GT40 + Cam Question 94GT

Hi guys, I'm looking to put GT40 heads on my 94 GT from an explorer. I'd also like to put in a cam that I can use with these heads. I'd like to get a trick flow cam but don't want to get too much lift. What it the max lift I can put in the car with these heads without worry about getting close on interference? Thanks for the input guys!

max lift you can run has nothing to do with ptv........but if you want to know, i've done tfs 1 cams in a few 94's for various customers with no ptv issues, you'll need to swap out the valve springs on the heads for any cam swap...if budget is an issue, google alex's springs, they sell valvetrain stuff that is drop in for gt-40 heads, while it works, if I were to use gt-40 heads on anyhting, i'd either run a beehive type spring or more so lsx valvetrain set up if money weren't an issue.......either way, whatever you choose, you should always clay the piston and degree the cam to check for vertical as well as radial ptv issues and measure for push rod length as well as the base circles on the tfs cams are not the same as a oem h.o cam......with that said you still can often get away with stock length rods, you should still check though!!

.
those heads have large combustion chambers so your compression will be less than optimum for 91 octane gas . . i would mill them .034" from stock or to 58 cc's [which ever comes first] to get it back up some.

i also wouldn't run anything bigger than a stage 1 with those unless you do some serious porting.
.

Thanks guys for the advice! I think you just talked me out of purchasing the cam until I replace the current motor. lol

So I should be pulling the GT40 heads this coming weekend, anything else I should pull while i'm at it? I'm under the impression I should get the explorer intake while I'm tearing everything apart but perhaps there are other parts that would be worth grabbing?

Not much other than the intake, and heads. Just remember you need the upper and lower intakes. To use the explorer upper/lower intakes on the SN95 (94-95 models ) you will also need to purchase a 45 degree throttle body adaptor such as this.
