Default Engine bay painting.

I realize this should be pretty straight forward, but just for laughs I'll ask anyways. I am going to paint my engine bay. My resto-mod job is looking pretty nice, but when I life up my hood the old paint and forming rust spots on the engine bay are killing it. I REALIZE that the ideal way to do this would be to pull the motor out, tuck all the wires, weld the unnecessary holes, sand, primer, base coat, and clear coat x3; HOWEVER........aint nobody got time for that! lol I want to do it that way after I save up enough money to do a 351W swap and that's going to take me a few more years. Until then my goal is to 1. stop the rust in it's tracks and 2. make it look better. My solution: rattle can with high heat flat black, wrap the living crap out the engine, take out the radiator, and do the engine bay in sections to make it easier.

My buddy used this stuff on his DSM and it came out pretty nice........ http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/v...=chassis+paint

Does anybody have anything ideas for better paint, experience, stories, tips, tricks, or "hey while you're doing that you should's....?"

seriously though guy,, wait till you pull the engine, youll just make it worse.

You cant properly treat the surface with the engine and all the wires hoses and junk in the way.

Trust me, I realize what I'm attempting is not ideal in any way. The only reason why I'm even considering it is because there is rust forming on the driver side frame, and it's driving me crazy. The passenger side I could do pretty easily, but the firewall and the driver side looks like a nightmare. My plan is to take out the CAI, MAF, A/C (it's already broke anyways),TB, radiator, battery, starter solenoid, charcoal canister, and anything else in my way in sections. That's why I would use that chassis paint, because it blends in perfect even if you do touch ups or do it in sections. I know how to paint cars, and you're right the motor needs to come out. But I don't want to pull it out because then I'm going to want to spend 4,000 on a rebuild and I don't have it at the moment. Once I eventually take out the motor, my plan is to paint the engine bay body color (spend some real time on it by tucking wires, welding all the unnecessary holes, etc) while I'm rebuilding the motor or doing the 351w swap. It's a little more work to take the high heat off, but at least it will be protected until I can get to that point.

you need to reread his post........compare an apple to an apple.......you had yours half apart making shock tower access and harness out of the way, a lot easier to achieve a semi-decent appearance.......he doesn't plan to do near the amount of disassembly you did. Also everyone has their own standard of what "they" think looks good

Here is what I am dealing with and here is my buddy's car with the paint I'm planing on using. As you can see the body color is dark jewel green and the original color was reef blue. It's weird because it's a 93 and the engine bay looks more dark jewel green than reef blue.
