From my experience start with supporting mods first. power is useless without control. Our cars have ****ty brakes, that's first on my list after a new transmission.

Wait a minute.
If you can find and an early block like a 302 cast in 68-69 for a truck you can bore it .060 then use a 3.400 stroker kit and make yourself a 352CID , 8.2 deck engine.
Mine has run run 10.82 at 3500' air density with a carb and no 'power adders'.
You can't build it for $3500 however.......
