I would go with the 351 like said IMO but the 302 with a turbo set up and a decent head will get you to the 500 hp mark and will last a while or not last. Tune is the key thing here. There are lots of people with turbo 302s doing it. BUT with that being said remember it is a ticking bomb and could let go at any giving second. Where the 351 would last like a bad habit. But get the tune off in anything and it will come apart. The thing is how many parts do you have already for the 302 if you dont have any good parts then gone to the 351 wont hurt as bad not like you are goe to buy the stuff twice. With the 351 you also gain 1/2 more stroke right off the bat and a much better platform to start with as far as strength. But at the same time you will have to buy all the 351 swap parts like a distributor and a oil pan intake balance and flex plate/ flywheel. But you can always look for used intakes dont wear out.

Thanks for the advice. After doing some research I haven't decided with block would be better for the turbo, the Dart 302 block or the Boss 302 block. And what heads would be the best choice for turbo set up?

351 stock block will be the cheaper option vs dart/boss and easily withstand your hp goals......however if your set on a 8.2 deck set up then I'd take the dart over the boss block anyday......that is dart shp

OP If 500 is your max HP number I'd use a 351 block to keep cost down. If you think that one day you'll want to step up to the next level I'd recommend using the SHP block with forged internals. Woody told me he believes that the SHP block can handle 1000HP all day for years. It's more expense up front but a little more piece of mind down the road.

really the 351 is a good block they will take just about all the average guy wants to throw at one. seen more then one in a full weight Mustang well in the 8s in the 1/4 how much faster do you want to go? do the math on that. that is over 800 HP at the crank with a stock block and crank. If you want to make a deal I will sell you my short block and I will switch over to the 351w and put some money in my pocket. I have a R block with a full forged setup still only 306 cid. If you got the cash it can be yours LOL. Hell for that matter I will sell you the whole setup. from intake to oil pan. and the turbo kit with it. bring your change it wont be cheap.

the dart 302 blocka are $2900.00 . . ford makes also makes a 4.00 and 4.125 block and bith are under $2000.00.

the ford block accept the stock roller lifter cage if you wanted to use it but i wouldn't in your case.

the boss was revised with longer cylinder bores to accomodate 347 strokers better than the previous version.

it will easily handle over 500 hp and 7000 rpm.

I also got a Dart Iron Eagle Race block. That is only .030 and has been clearanced for a 347 stroker. it makes the SHP blocks look like tinker toys. BUT it has a spot in the deck that is behind the fire ring area it could be welded and decked but it was ran after this happened and was fine other then that it needs cleaned up. I will sell it as is or I can have it fixed but that is gone to raise the price to what ever the repair is. I have had a few people look at it but no one has money right now. I want $1550 for it as is and the fix would jack it up a few hundred more I am sure. The block is good to 2000HP has billet 4 bolt main caps on all 5 mains. It is just the best iron block ever made for a 8.2 deck Ford point blank. It cost over 2500 now and then needs the final work done on them and thats a few more hundred. So it is a deal. I got it years ago and just want to move up to the 9.5 deck block for more cid. The only thing I am lacking is a small main 9.5 deck block and pistons for my stroker crank.
