Default Budget modifications

Some of my friends and I are having a friendly competition to see who can have the fastest car, with spending the least amount of money. I have a 1993 GT with an automatic and 2.73 gears. What are the best bang for buck modifications i can do?

Remove a few hundred pounds of weight. That's free!

Gears , weight , and bump your timing a couple degrees( free ) . That is if your timing is still stock 10 degrees btdc. You may be able to go as high as 14. Depends your engine. Then you will likely need to run 93 octane to keep it from pinging.

What cars are your friends getting ?

You chose wise with a Foxbody, mods won't get much cheaper compared to anything else out there.

The cars I will be competing with are, a 2002 trans am (Auto), a 1988 lx with a 5.0, and another friend is looking to 350 swap an s10. I am willing to spend a little money though. I will definitely do the timing, and some weight reduction. Does anyone know of some good junkyard parts that i could use? I am already looking for GT40 heads and Intake.

Yea , heads and intake from an exploder will get you another 40-50 hp. But your looking for trouble if you don't rebuild the heads. The guy looking to do the s10 350 swap is going to run into problems with being able hold the road, get him from a dig other wise he will pull away. Simply because he is much lighter than you. I had an s10 with a built 350 in it and had to put a ton of money into the rear suspension and some big ole fat tires just to hold the road from a dig. But it was a quick little truck for sure. I don't know a whole lot abut the 02 trans am since I never was a trans am guy, but the autos in those are probly better than the one you have.

This contest isn't even fair. The LS1 car will be 1-2 seconds faster than any of the other cars stock.

Well, the trans am's transmission actually went out yesterday. He was running consistent 8.9's in the 1/8th mile. My car ran a 9.5 when it needed a throttle position sensor, and before i got my headers on. I will have to see what my car will do this weekend, but hopefully a decent improvement. I just finished bumping the timing up, and will start on the weight reduction tomorrow.
