Default shifting issues and idle issues

When i accelerate then push the clutch in to shift my rpm's jump up 200 or so then it shifts causing an annoying hanging shift. also the car seems like it wants to keep picking up speed when i'm not giving it any gas when i shift at road speeds. i tried turning the distributer witch took away my hanging idle at shifts but then caused a lack in power. if i turn the distributer the other way advancing it i get hanging idle again but have tons of power. so either i have lots of power with a hanging idle when shifting and idle stalling when i come to a stop or a perfect shifting no hanging idle car with a hudge power loss but a perfect sitting idle any suggestions. i did a koeo and i have no codes. new tps, maf, ect, iac, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. it's a 95 5.0l

Maybe you got a vacuum leak.
What is your idle RMP

How are adjusting your distributor? You need to have the spout disconnected. Check the sticky section of this forum for the timing adjustment thread. Then do a base idle reset after you dist adjustment.

have you checked your harmonic balancer, I'm not sure about the newer cars, But my 68 442, I had the same prob, after much messing, like you're doing, that was the prob

Base idle reset to start, if that doesn't fix it. Smoke check for vacuum leak.

I've done a base idle reset 3 times I checked for vac leaks found none I don't think a vac leak is the problem because like I said if I turn the distributor one way the idle hang and other idle issues go away but then I lose all of my power. I will check the harmonic balancer I kind of was thinking that too or maybe the pip

as for the spout no I'm not pulling it because I don't have a timming light I'm just turning the distributor and listening to my engine by ear I know how it sounds when it's running right. also I had my mechanic pull the spout and set the timming to 10 but then I would backfire under hard acceleration and had a hudge power loss aswell. but I had no idle issues either

Yeah, your timing is messed up from something. Verify your timing marks on the balancer with TDC on #1 cyl. That's the first thing I'd do. Then go from there to determine if balancer spun, or its something else like a tooth off on the dizzy.

Let us know what you find.
