What causes CEL code 15?
Hey guys, I was driving my fox when the CEL light came on. I just purchased one of the OBD 1 readers that tell you the codes on the screen over counting the blinks. I happen to have it on me when I was driving.
I got code 15 (Readout Memory Test Failed (O), Keep Alive Memory Test Failed (CM), code 10 (which does...not...exist....), and then code 11 (system pass). When I pulled over into the gas station it stalled, and I plugged the tester immediately. The strange thing is when you shut the car off and turn it back on the CEL goes away. It will also go away after a few miles of driving it.
What could cause code 15?

Yes, a Bama chip.
It's been running rich as hell. The last two times I have been driving it. Idle in 13's, normal acceleration in 12's, and WOT in very high 10's/low 11's. When you push the clutch in sometimes it wants to die. I cannot get an accurate a/f ratio or stable idle because this car keeps changing! Sometimes perfect idle, runs great, perfect a/f, and sometimes rich as hell and the idle is crap. It does not like driving in parking lots or slow speeds.
So the chip itself is bad?

I got that CEL two days ago, I thought it was the o2 sensors since it went away after a few miles and since I have been running a little rich. I swapped them before I left yesterday. Brand new Bosh o2 sensors. It has never hit 10's until yesterday. I drove it for 15 miles one trip, no CEL. Then on the way back about half way thought, it came one. That's when I pulled into the gas station and checked the codes.

I contacted Bama and they are swapping the chip. They said it could also be a spout connector, so just to be on the safe side I ordered a new spout connector, had them lean it out a little bit, and bump the idle from 850 to 1,000 rpms like the car wants. Even if the tune is correct or still off, I'm calling the local tuner. I'm done with this.

I'm going to let the tuner work his magic, then I'm buying the Moates quarter horse to learn how to tune myself. That way the tuner can forever burn what he did on the bama chip and I can play with the quarter horse and learn that way. According to Moates, you can flash what the tuner does on the Bama chip onto the Quarter Horse. Apparently, the Quarter Horse has a battery in it that only last 3-4 years, if and when it dies you lose your tunes.

Really? Nice. That's good to know. I was going to go with the tuner either way, but I was trying to do a proper shake down and be sure I had gotten any and all mechanical issues (vacuum leaks, tps voltage, make sure new injectors work, etc) solved before I called the tuner. It was working just fine finally, but then it kept getting richer and richer. Then I got the CEL with WOT 10's and I'm like.......F it, I'm done. Get a new chip and calling him ASAP. 100 miles is going to have to do.
