Just got a 94 5.0 and I have some questions
Hey guys, I just bought a 94 mustang 5.0 and it has a few issues. For starters it has an oil leak and it is getting on the exhaust. The seller said that he was told the oil pan gasket was leaking, but it didn't sound right. Are there any common issues with oil leaks on these model?
Next, it feels sluggish when you gun on it from slow speed. maybe its just me, but it doesn't seem to accelerate at the rate a sports car should.
It also needs struts on the front. What are some brands and types you guys like?
The odometer also stopped working. It stopped on 109800. Where is a good place to start trouble shooting?
Thanks in advance.

1 at that age and miles i would suspect oil leaks from every gasket (valve covers, oil pan, intake, and front cover, maybe even rear main) you have to LOOK at it to see where the oil is coming from.
2 impossible to comment on your rate of acceleration , but it sounds like it was maintained for crap, so suspect plugs, wires, fuel filter, cap, rotor, or maybe the engine is just tired because it could have 250k miles on it
3 speedometer cable, gear, instrument cluster

Manual or Automatic?
Sounds like you got an auto, cause those cars are sluggish right off the dealer lot. The 94/95 mustangs never were very peppy cars even when they were new. That how ever can easily be taken care of with a simple swap of rear gears. Auto go 4.10s and that car will feel like its supposed to. The Aode trans is notorious for being a slush box, and the stock exhaust was laughable at best.
As far as the oil leak, its probly your valve cover gaskets, but as stated above that just something you will have to visually verify on your own.
Speedos on these cars don't use a cable, it gets a signal from the VSS on the transmission. It could be disconnected, or just have a stripped gear.

Get your self some degreaser and a power washer and clean the engine real good. It'll then be very easy to tell where your oil leak is coming from. Dampers. Budget=Monroe lifetime. Budget no object=Koni or strange. Strange aren't really that expensive. Finally my 95 ran a 15.3@91 when it was bone stock. That was blazing fast in 1987. Not so great now but a few mods will get the car performing a lot better.
