If I had to do it again the "only" intake I'd use when trying to reach a certain power level that has proven itself time and time again on efi 5.0's is the holley systemax 2

^Can't argue with that intake. When it comes down to it, a cut up clown shoe is better than the stock intake. Even with stock heads and intake, but once you upgrade the heads, exhaust, TB, MAF, and camshaft, that's when it will REALLY make a difference.

true!......as long as the upgrades aren't the "b" or "e" CAMS...LOL......ALTHOUGH, i have toyed with the idea of getting a set of gt-40 heads, putting lightweight "good" valvetrain parts in.....and by good I don't mean alex's parts heavy shyt.......then taking a holley systemax and having it ported by t-moss on the corral and having the "right" cam designed for said combo and have all the supporting mods.......plan on using a stock bottom end with good ring seal and goal is shoot for 11's, should be a breeze....guy on the corral did such and was doing 10.60's banging the snot out of the gears......iirc he had 4.30's...........to all those who fear gear..lol

You can do some cool stuff with whatever you're working with. I've heard from a lot of guys that they make more power with the stock heads and intake by simply adding a super charger than doing heads, cam, and intake.

New guy here;

I have heard nothing but praise about GT40P heads though, higher flowing than GT40 and GT40x heads?

Im doing a budget build 5.0, gasket matching some GT40p's and pairing them with an air gap intake.

Have I been hearing wrong? My info is coming from Google research and the "Ford Guy" at my machine shop.

that's not true. the gt40x heads are aluminum and will outflow both the other cast gt40 heads. the gt40p and gt40 heads are both from explorer motors and the "P" heads are a little better but not much. 95-97 had the gt40, while 97-up had the gt40p.

they are better than the stock e7 heads, but again, not by much.

Don't set your expectations to high and you wont be disappointed. I personally don't think the GT40 heads are worth the time and busted knuckles it would take to mount em.

If you want to take off around 50 lbs off the car/front get aluminum heads. That's a huge upgrade in itself that you will never get with the GT40 or GT40P. The GT40X heads produce more power and are aluminum, so you win on two fronts. But the Ford heads are not nearly as good as say AFR, Edelbrock, or Trick Flow heads; just to name a few.

A rock is better than the stock E7 heads. You can try your luck buying used heads........but......uh you're gambling............I just went through that. lol Hence why I have a brand new motor. The Trick Flow heads I bought ended up being warped and it was not worth it to me to put the stock stuff back on after I went through all the trouble and purchased all the other upgrades. Beware, but horror stories like mine do not happen often.

any sbf oem ford head IMO is junk and a waste of time.....they are for people who want to feel like they've upgraded and not wasted money doing so and sound cool when asked "what mods they have".........sorry to those on here who have them............to make them decent, port the snot out of them and add better valvetrain = not worth cost
