Default Charging/turn signal ?s

My wife just bought me a 1990 GT with a fresh 347, auto car. My problem is that when the car idles the amp gauge goes up and down with the rms of the car idling. Also the turn signals are real slow. The amp guage when driving is closer to the lower level of the normal side. The car has a new alternator and battery.Any help is appreciated.

The stock gauges are not very accurate. Check your voltage at the batt with it idling everything off. It should be between 14-14.5 volts. Then check it idling with everything on. Shouldn't drop below 13.5 volts but anything over 13 is charging. I bet there are under drive pulleys on it too which means the alt is turning slower over the entire rpm range but it actually affects output at idle.

+1 ^^^

The stock alternator was only a 75 amp to begin with, barely adequate for a stock car. I suffered with mine for a couple years before finally doing a 3G upgrade last year.

Money well spent......
