Default bad noises from engine? radiator issue

hi all
so, my long has completed, and a new one has begun
i took the top half of my engine apart and spent a couple/few years getting around to putting it back together.
part of my efforts was swapping out the cam, so all that entails was done (by me).
got her all back together and battery was dead.
charged it up, turned the key and bam, fired up first try. i shed a tear, was pretty proud.
then, a noticed a clanging noise from the engine area.
not a fast paced noise, but it was clanging like metal on metal. not nearing at the speed of the engine. maybe 1 clang per second when running at 1000rpm.
if i give it some gas, say to 2000rpm, it does get faster, lets say to 2 clangs per second.

i will try to upload some short video.

i felt the valve cover, didnt feel like anything was hitting it. felt the upper intake and felt a little vibration/bag/tap whatever you want to call it.

as of right now, with absolutely no real engine knowledge, im wondering if i have a dead injector on one of the cylinders?

another problem:
the coolant is heating up in th eengine, it goes out to the radiator, but its not coming out of the radiator. top tube is hot, bottom tube is cold. reservoir didnt change level at all. i opened the radiator cap and the level inside was not near the top.

thoughts???

i was so pumped when the car fired right up!! oh well

still trying to get some vids loaded here, but was thinking about this more. approx 1000 rpm and the noise is about once a second. 1000rpm /8 cylinders = 125, 125/2 valves = 60ish per minute, which is about 1 per second.
so im thinking something with a valve? does that make sense? cant be a coincidence?
gonna see if any header bolts are loose as well

engine sounds terrible i think
engine is a little smoky. something on passenger side. im just attributing it to be run for the first time since put back together.
will check if everything is tight

so, i pulled spark plug wires one at a time to see if the noise would go away.
pulled #5 and the noise was gone.
so, nosie is coming from cylinder 5 only when firing.
loose valves?
this is me just guessing wildly

i think i have an idea what the banging noise is. i think the valve may be hitting the valve cover. i didnt feel anything when i felt the cover, but will try again in that area.
i remember when i was taking it apart the valve cover gaskets were doubled to make clearance for the 1.6 rollers. i put double gaskets back on, but they maybe werent quite as thick.
the sound sounds alot like the valve cover metal getting hit.

well, felt the cover again, still nothing. felt right where the valves would be for #5. nothing
im really dying to find out what this is

theres no noise when the car is cranking only once it starts up.
theres no noise when i disconnect the plug wire.

take the valve cover off and see if there is a mark where it could be hitting....roller rockers won't clear stock valve covers without mods to them

thanks
i will take a look tomorrow.
seems i gotta take out the upper intake and thats it?

also, any thoughts on the coolant situation? its flowing to the radiator. its flowing to the heater core. just not making it out of the radiator.
seems there is some type of blockage because im seeing a leak at the thermostat housing, and also its forcing out of the threaded block thing on top of the housing it seems.

before i took everything apart i didnt have any issues with coolant from what i remember.

Give the radiator a quick pressure test with air. Obviously if your blowing in the inlet and not blowing out of the outlet the radiator is clogged. Remove the hoses on both sides and blow thru with a compressor. If that clear next thing to do is replace the thermostat.
