Welcome to the forum,
Just to clarify, you swapped to a T5 from a 94 V6 Mustang, to put behind your 5.0 in your 91 GT.
I thought that was a straight up swap, so I'd use a 5.0 started. But are you saying a 5.0 starter didn't fit breaking the cone ?

the starter was dragging when hot so I pulled the starter and the cone was broke.

Either starter will fit. Ford went to the smaller gear reduction starter on 5.0 mustangs in 92. The later starter is more compact and lighter but has the solenoid on the starter so you would have to run your starter wire down there. We'll worth the swap imho. They draw fewer amps as well.
But with either starter it sounds like you may need to add some shims.

This is of course, assuming the PO installed an 11" flywheel. If you have a 10.5 (which is normal for a 5.0) You're ****ed... Your best option at that point would be to buy an aftermarket 94-95 bellhousing... Or just get a correct transmission.

Probably not going to fix the issue, but could certainly be compounding.

Sorry, glossed over the part about the bell housing. 64bit is right the bolt holes for the starter on the 3.8 housing are not spaced correctly for the 5.0 flywheel. So that is the problem. But either starter works with the proper 5.0 bellhousing and flywheel.

they used the 3.8 flywheel with a 5.0 starter.he gave me a newish flywheel for the 5.0 but didnt want to go through the hassle of swapping everything right now.
so that being said I can get a 3.8 starter and bolt right up?
