Default help ignition issues

I have an 86 5.0 built 306, tuned already, maf converted. So my problem is the car will run fine but 20 min into the drive when everything gets good and warm, the car will intermittently die. It dies like you shut the key off, engine just stalls out no sputter like a fuel issue, and its not ignition switch it's newer, and it doesn't shut of the radio and accessories. I have replaced the module and module connector already. I resistance tested the coil checked fine, but im not sure how accurate that is because the problem is when everything gets warm. Other than that the only idea is the pick up coil. any ideas which one is more likely?

Does the car start right back up or do you have to let it cool before it'll fire up again ?

Sometimes it will start right back up sometimes it takes 10sec or so. If it took minutes or hours I would think coil, but I'm not sure if they can be intermittent like this.

Usually when you have ignition parts such as the coil, pip, or tfi that give out when they get hot you will start to see some bucking as the resistance goes up. It may kick and buck wildly until it just cuts off. And then you will usually have to wait about 10-20 min before it will start and run good again.

This actually sounds like it could be a fuel pump problem. Is there any way you can get a fuel pressure gage on it so you can view the pressure as you drive it and see what it does right as it dies? It could be a faulty fuel pump relay.

I have a pressure gauge on the engine runs 40 with out vacuum on my regulator. It's an aeromotive. The pump is less than a year old to, walbro 220lph. I thought relays were done foe when they go out not intermittent?

And if I was looking fuel pressure wouldn't I get a sputter vs lights out quit?

If the pump is shutting off or stopping then it will just die

I put a new coil on it, didn't help. I watch my fuel pressure gauge, it doesn't drop off, holds pressure even after it dies

Good then we can rule out fuel issues, cause if it was fuel related the gauge would drop to 0 immediately.

With the TFI I would expect it to buck like crazy up until it dies then have to wait for a while before it would run proper again.

Perhaps the 2 main ecu connections behind the intake are corroded? I would think if they were causing the problem though it would randomly stall or idle funny. Not just after it got warm, but you never know its worth taking a look at.

Do you have a spare distributor you could put in to rule out the PIP?
