Default Freshly Rebuild T-5, I'm breaking it in, literally

Hey guys. Just got my 65 stang back on the road with a V8 swap and a WC T-5 from a 1991 Foxbody. The trans had bad synchros so I had it rebuilt with new synchros, bearings, races, and seals. Anyways, I was beating on the car a little today, spun through 1st, and when I went to grab second gear I must have released the clutch a little too early. As it went down into second there was a bad clunk/grind and it shook the car. Almost felt like I broke a U-Joint. Felt really bad that it happened. But I drove the car home and it went into second gear fine each time. Even got on it a little and it went in 2nd gear fine. Just sharing a little greif with you guys, just thinking that I might have taken a chunk out of a gear or something. Anyone have any idea on what the carnage could be, if any?

Yikes, I'd be afraid to look personally.

Maybe if you drive carefully, this never happened lol.

Good luck

I'd definitely drain the trans and check the fluid with a magnet. You could search around a little inside your trans with a magnet http://www.lowes.com/pd_587682-73126...4-d719400f0f44

no t-5 I have ever rebuilt has ever not needed a 2nd and third gear as the snychronizer teeth built onto the hub of the gears are always mushroomed flat from years of abuse, when they should be pointy like a roof top........ when shifting quick this issue often manifests itself like a quick grind or catch.

Yeah, Well hopefully no damage was done. Thanks for the info guys. I'll probably do a drain and try the magnet trick to see if I find anything. I'm going to baby this thing for a while.

damage done? I think what I stated most likely could have been overlooked by your rebuilder, which is often the case if they don't specifically specialize in one area/ make of trannies.
