Intake/Head questions & help needed!
I am new to this forum and hope you guys can help me. I have a 94 Mustang GT 5-speed.
Here's what I know has been done, as I've only had the car a couple months.
- Trick Flow upper intake
- Trick Flow intake elbow
- Aftermarket TB (not sure size or brand)
- BBK CAI
- BBK shorty headers
- Catless 2.5" X-Pipe into FM 40's (changing to MF XL soon)
- Performance Distributors cap, button, & 10mm wires with iridium plugs.
It might have a small can, not sure. When I got the car it had a nice 'lope' to the idle making all of us think it had a cam, compounded with the fact there is a nearly new double roll timing set on it. However, when I did the tune up with new wires I noticed it had the non HO firing order on it, so I fixed it to the correct HO one. Basically idles 95% smooth after that. Now it's back to 'lopey' or maybe just rough from an IAC or something. Anyway to tell without pulling the cam out? And if it's not stock it's really small....would 1.7 ration rocker arms be okay for a tad of an increase?
Now to the main question. I have to take my heads off to fix my header bolt issue, so I'm going to change them out. I can get my hands on a complete 96 Explorer 5.0 engine, and was thinking of using the GT40 heads off of it as that seems to be a popular upgrade for 5.0 guys. Anything I need to do to them besides the standard refresh? Will porting/polishing them help in any way? Also I heard the explorer upper/lower intake, if lower is ported, is as good as a Trick Flow...right or wrong? If that's the case I can sell the TF and recoup a lot of my money.
Suggestions/comments please?
