Default Gas coming out of overflow tube

Why would gas come out of the overflow tube while filling my tank? I just replaced the filler neck and grommet because it was leaking. Does this have something to do with the return line? Please help.

It has nothing to do with the return line.

How full are you filling it when pumping gas. If your trying to get every last drop and filling it right to the top of the neck, then yes it'll overflow.

Or is it overflowing as soon as you start filling an empty tank ?

If you are one of these guys who just keep clicking the pump handle to get every last drop in then that is your problem.

I didn't fill it up guys. The gas runs out of the tube without a full tank. It's also hard to pump the gas itself. The mechanism on the pump handle keeps clicking off to stop the flow even though the rank is not full.

When you replaced the rubber grommit did you make sure its installed completly and not folded partially on the back side. If the fuel nozzle constantly clicks off its because its filling the fill tube faster than it can get into the tank.

I take you don't have any check engine lights. Somehow you have over pressure in the tank, possibly a faulty evap control valve or canister. Not really sure how all that works frankly but my 2007 Shelby was hard to fill sometimes, particularly when hot outside. The tank just wouldn't vent. I had to live with very slowly filling the tank.

I do not have a check engine light on and to my knowledge I installed the grommet correctly. Any further advice would be appreciated. When I turn the gas nozzle while it's in the filler neck that helps. I don't want to watch my money drain away after filling the gas tank.
