My name is Gabriel I am 27 and I have had a mustang for about a year and have fallen in love! Now as much as I love my car I want more power... I bought an 89 built 5.0 motor, transmission, and rearend. I didnt come with a wirring harness so i was just going to buy a msd ignition setup since its natrually aspererated I won't have to bother with the harness. I'm hoping I'm right and that this is a possible swap so I guess I was wanting some input on my choice and how hard this will be and any more info anyone would like to share with me please an thank you

It's a pretty involved swap. You'll need a wiring harness unless you plan on going carb. Even then you will need some wiring. What kind of transmission? A t5 from an 89 won't work in a new edge without mods. Also the rear end is too narrow to swap to an 01.

I've never done this swap, but the only advice I can think of would be to convert to carb for this. Dumping the EFI may simplify the swap. Everything else shouldnt take to much thinking.
Just out of curiosity, why not stick with a 4.6 swap ? Seeing that's what came in those ?

I was going to naturally aspirate it then do an MSD system instead of a wiring harness .. what will i have to do about the tranny and rear end then? What rear end and tranny could I use to fit that motor but also the car?

5.0 uses the same K member as the 3.8, the 4.6 swap would require a different K member.
Now for your transmission, do you still have the transmission from the 3.8L engine? If it was a manual car it is a T5 and is actually a better trans than that old 89 and it will bolt right up to the 5.0. The only differences are that the speed sensor on the old trans is gear driven, and the speed sensor on the new edge is magnetic plus the bell housings for a v6 and v8 are different also the 89 bell and input shaft are slightly shorter. You will need the magnetic speed sensor in order to have the dash speedo work . The 89 T5 would need to have a 94-95 V8 bellhousing and a 94-95 input shaft, then the tail housing would need swapped out to a 99-04 base T5 and a reluctor ring for the magnetic pick up. To make things alot simpler pick up any T5 from a 99-04 base 3.8l swap the v6 bell housing for a 94-95 5.0 bell housing.

Yes much easier to keep the 2001 5 speed. The 3.8 bellhousing will bolt up but the starter mount is a little different so do what he said and get a bellhousing for a 94-95 5.0. Also when you say naturally aspirated I'm assuming you mean a carburetor. Naturally aspirated means no forced induction, ie no turbo or supercharger. You need an 8.8 rear from a 99-04. The Fox rears are something like 1.5" narrower each side. Plus they're drum brake.
