Default tachometer

Hey everyone, im getting a racing tach on my 89 mustang and i wanted to know if anyone knew the best kind for under 200 or 200. Or whatever price it takes, i just dont want a shanty one.

yeah those autogage 5" w/shift lite is like 109 @ autozone, damn i should go get one tomorrow...

Ya I wanted to know if anyone knew aboutthis one tach that I had my eye on. It says its for engines with factory ignitions. Which mine has but why would that matter at all ?</P>

The tach can "read" how often the crankshaft rotates by "sensing" the ignition pulse (from the coil to the distributor.) (This is the same raeson it matters whether you have a 4-6-8 cylinder. In 8 for example; for each crankshaft rotation, the coil sends four pulses to the distributor.) On an aftermarket ignition, the tach might not be able to "sense" the pulse. I'm not sure why exactly that is. The service guy at AutoMeter is great, email him.

Any one just don't get one of those cheap lookin ones that looks like it's out of a cartoon. You know the ones that the ricers get.

Wait the tachometer reads how many revolutions per minute the crankshaft rotates? I always thought it was the camshaft. I might have got them confused because the cam is the brain and its telling the crank to do that. Wow I feel dumb now if that is true.</P>
