Finding TDC
How can I easily determine when #1 is at TDC I can get close ie; the rush of air out the spark plug hole when the piston is coming up but I am concerned the pointer is the wrong one and therefore irrelevant.</P>
How do I make sure it is TDC and not just close.</P>

are you saying like using a degreeing wheel with the heads on , your just turning the damper , then yeah a rush of air will come out much stronger then the exhaus one . or you can use a stick i guess <IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

To find TDC you can use the screwdriver and stick in the #1 hole and bump the engine over until the piston is all the way up but don't let it go down any or you can stick your thumb or finger over the #1 hole and wait for it to get blowed off the hole but be quick not to let it go down also be careful not to confuse the compression strokewith the intake stroke it will suck onyour finger a littlenot blow it offalso on true TDC both intake and exhaust valves will be closed after finding true TDC take off the distributor cap and see if the rotor points to #1 and check all other timing marks thiswill tell if it is correct be sure to pull off the coil wire so the engine doesn't start and becareful around the hole don't get pinched the chances are slim of getting pinched but play it safe.</P>

I was told of a tool that you screw into the spark plug hole and hand turn the motor over and stop when it bumps into tool, mark balancerthen turn backwards until it bumps again then mark balancer again the point halfway between the two marks on the balancer is true tdc. Anyone know the where abouts of such a tool where can i buy one?</P>
I ask since I have some concern the tdc pointer on my motor is not the correct one.</P>
