Absolutely a benefit, as with all rotating machinery. Any unbalance at high rpm can lead to destruction...but don't know the cost.

Rotating assembly for a V-8 is about $175 around here.
You should be able to find a good balance job at an automotive machine shop in any large metro area....

Balancing is beneficial in most high performance and racing applications. It is good insurance and increases an engines life span. Simply put all the piston and rod assemblies are machined by removing little bits of material so that they all weigh the same. Then the crankshaft is spin balanced so its counter weights are able to offset the weight of the piston and rod assemblies as the rotating assemble spins in the engine running. This insures that equal force is applied in all directions under load thereby increasing the life of all the components while gaining a few more ponies from a smoother running engine. The benefits of balancing are obviously more noticable as RPM increases. I balance every engine I build and recommend it to anyone who's building one, especially if your using some or all aftermarket components in your roataing assembly. Prices can range from $150.00 to $200.00, like I said a small price to payfor piece of mind and a smoother running engine.

ive been quoted upwards of 350$ to balance my 351w, compared to your prices this seems unreasonable.

$350.00 is alittle expensive. Most of the shops Ive ever dealt with chrged from 150.00 to 200.00. You should shop around.
