i just got a bunch of money from christmas i was wondering if you guys can help me out and help me find a nice 331 stroker kit my plans are to add a supercharger or turbo to run about 10 to 12 lbs of boost all day long as pretty much my daily driver the only thing my budget right now is about $800 should i wait a couple months to save more and get a better kit or is there a kit out there for about $800 for me?

You could get the chp 347gt stoker kit for $800. Just go to www.coasthigh.com and look under there specials. It has forged pistons and rods.

Check on ebay, I would get a kit with forged pistons. And are you sure that you want a 331 and not a 347?

bore that baby out and get the 347, it will cost more but i think its worth it while you have the engine out

If its going to be a daily driver I would go with the 331. They are more reliable and will last longer.

I have a kit you can buy. I just bought it from ebay. It is a 331 with forged pistons. You can see it here (ebay item 8024203704). Also when you look at this auction it is the "K" kit.
I have decided to go with a different set up. I will take $500 and you pay the shipping. I am in Tampa, FL.

From what you say, you are on rather a limited budget (which can be a lot of fun, actually), so overall I'd say be realistic about what you can afford, and when.

Unless you plan to have a good deal more $$ later on, I would not build it for a SC now: that is extra expense you don't need now and it might be years before you can get a SCr - I'd just get on with a good N/A motor unless you know the $$ for that Sc are just down the road..

If you have only $800 bucks and spend it all on the kit you have nothing left if you run into a problem in the rebuild. While my inclination would be to advise you to get the 347 kit, the fact that there is a 331 kit is just too good (if its the right type), and if it were me and there was more $$$ coming down the road, I'd go for that so I'd have $300 left for those "other things" that always crop up. If there is nothing you find you need to replace, like a worn timng chain/sprkcets or an oil pump that doesn't pass muster when you check it, you can spend the money to throw in an inexpensive cam or something similar and get more than the 16 cubes you gave up would give you.

Also the 347 will require machining (added cost) of the block for rod bolt clearance on the longer stroke. If you decide to run the SC as a street car, you can make close to the same HP with a 302 as you can with a 347 (both can run up to block limitations) and the stock crank is good for the 12 lbs of boost. You just make different decisions on pistons, heads, boost, and such.
I am currently rebuilding my SC 306 in my 88 (it was 450 RWHP before). I decided to stick with the stock stroke length and just run a bit higher Compression ratio pistons.

definetly go with the 331, it is a better boosted motor anyways, and chech ebay there are cheap kits that have forged eagle rods, and forged pistons. and sincue you are going to use the stock block(i assume) a cast crank will work just fine for your application. Npte your limit will be about 500 hp to the crank though.
