I need your guys expertise! I have a chance to pick up a tremec for my Mustang, my question is the guy said he bought it from Jegs, it's less than a year old and still has some of the warranty left. He said it should have less than 1500 miles on it, now my question, is there any way to look at the trans in the car and tell the difference from a stock t-5 and a tremec, I'm not real sure to trust this guy but I can buy the whole car an 86 GT carbed for 1600. All I'm interested in is the trans and he couldn't get the car started last night and I'm suppose to go back today, just sitting in the car the shifter moves smoother than any other 5 speed I've owned. Any information you guys can give me before this afternoon would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Is it visible from looking under the car (what area of the transis it stamped on)? Or do I need to jack it up to look at the trans? Thanks!

You should be able to see it fairly easy by sliding under the car without jacking it up, it won't be stamped on the top I'm pretty sure..</P>

is the person saying tremec t-5 or tremec 3550 big difference.tremec t-5 has stamp on top and looks like a stock t-5 but has better parts,a tremec 3550 is bigger and has alot more ribbing to case also has 6 bolt shifter and rev.light sender is at the tailshaft of trans.
