Default seal repair

i noticed my oil leakin the other day, and yesterday, my low oil light came on.turns out i have a cracked front main seal. i was wondering how much it should cost to replace it. the ford dealership wants like 9 hours labor, at $65/hour. he started telling me about all these things that could go wrong, and that it could come close to $900. i told them they can go f**k themselves. they also want $480 to replace my clutch whilst pep boys will do it for $250. anyway, how much should i expect to pay in labor for the front seal, i'll do the rear when i change the clutch.

i would, but i'm at college and have no means of doing it myself. i have no where to do the work, except maybe at my girlfriends house.however, she didn't even have a funnel for me to put oil in my car last night. i don't want to wait another 3 weeks until i get home to do it myself

I would say that you could have your clutch and front and rear seal replaced at one time and have it done in one day. Cost, well mechanics aren't cheap. I would shop the time frame for the job then check hourly rates if you have to have someone else do it for you. But I would deffinately recommend doing both front and rear at the same time.

i would if i could, but i'm at school in a small town, and i've been warned by a couple people not to go to anyone here. i'm going to a pep boys in the nearest big town(tyler, texas) but they won't replace a front seal, they only do the rear ones. so i guess i'll start searchin tonight for someone to do the front, am i ok to drive it for the next day or so as long as there is oil in the car?

I guess it depends on how bad the leak is. If you are looking at a small leak then you could probably drive it, so long as you get it to the shop as soon as possible. Where the leak is shouldn't really make too big of a differance. If you are losing oil it needs to fixed as soon as you can get it done. In the mean time check it often and make sure that you don't come close to running out.

well while you have the clutch put in replace the rear seal
the front seal is like 4.5 hours....one that bothers me is the oil light coming on..not good so how many qts were added...how many miles on car?..if alot I would just pull the pan and put in a new oil pump. also maybe while your at pep boys one of the better mechanic can do the front as a side job..might save you a lil cash<edited><editID>vfast</editID><editDate>38007.8060648148</editDate></edited>
