Default bad EEC pin 46?

OK here's the deal. The check engine light is on and i got codes for the neutral safety switch, TP sensor, EGR valve, Baro pressure sensor, ECT sensor and ACt sensor. Well I miss read the wiring diagram and thought that all sensors were reading bad because the car was missing the neutral safty switch and I thought that was cutting out the ground to all the other sensors, they all share a common ground. I replaced the Safty switch but still had all the other sensor codes. I then checked the TP sensor since its the easiest well its bad. I get 5 volts at idle, and WOT. the thing is i had to groud out the multimeter to the throttlebody as the black ground to the TP sensor doesn't get any ground. Ok... he'res the magic question: Can i ground the circuit strait to the chassis without damaginf the EEC? Seems I can as all it does is provide ground anyway.
