Default Heater Core

I own a 89 GT and to my knowledge the Heater COre went out, so I was going to replace it.. I was looking at how to get to the heater core, and man it looks like a fairly hard thing to get it.. Am I just over reacting or is this job a day and a half of work??

I just changed mine this fall it was a pain but i did somthing real cheesy & it worked out great

1st you have to get the dash all loose, take out the gauge housing (the only hard part is getting the connectes off & back on they are 2 inches to short for my hands, take out the console & pry the dash back 1 foot or so you will now see the heater core box. they say you have to disconect the ac but what I did was cut a door in the heater box in the far upper left & pulled the cire right out. then put it back & bondo's the door back on. total time was 4 1/2 hours 1st time ever.

its cheesy but unless you take the dash out whos gonna know.

Shop time is about 8 hours if you have A/C.If you dont have A/C its a breeze. If its your first time you can guarantee it will be longer than the 8 hours providing you dont HONKEY ENGINEER it and do it by the book.Get a manual and go from there.

honkey engineer. lol

did the one in my truck... 2 hours.

And had it not been the first heater core I'd done, it would have been even faster.

Your truck is nothing like a mustangs.I just did my 84 f150 in about 30-45 minutes. The must when i had heat took my like 6 1/2 hours and im quick or though it seemed that i was.I dont drive the car in anything but warm weather so i disconnected all the heating and air conditioning and scrapped it.Theres not even heat/air controlsanymore.

Yeah the truck is stupid easy. Took me 2 hours due to wanting to get a perfect seal on the box putting it back together, trying to find camper seal, mucking about with it, and not knowing exactly how it popped out. Now I could have it out in about 15 minutes. The new core required some bending of the in/out tubes, but otherwise it was pie.

My friend had a mid-90's Escort and he said that most of the independant shops he talked to wouldn't touch the job. Go figure.

I hope the heater never clogs in my mustang. It doesn't have a roof yet I've driven it in everything from sunshine to snow. I live for my heater.

Yeah. Thankfully it's not my daily driver. That would seriously suck. Er, well if it was I wouldn't have taken the roof off.
